I did it. I took the first step and bought a car. This baby cones courtesy of NSF racing. It is a 1962 Plymouth Fury. It has several features that are ideal in a race car.
First off, it already has a LeMons-legal roll cage. This is very important because the price that is usually given to cage a car is ~$2000, which is more than I paid for the whole car.
It's also been upgraded to discs on the front. This is ideal for not hitting things and going fast.
I also got a box full of trim pieces that I am going to try and sell online. The importance of this will become apparent.
It does need a few things. The seat that is currently in there is not legal anymore. I'll also have to buy harnesses. That doesn't count against the budget at least.
The one major flaw in this particular car is the lack of a drivetrain. A 340 was recommended, but I'll see what I can find in junkyards.
I'm also looking forward to try and do this in my apartment's 1 car garage. Either that, or try and find one of the local SCCA crew who has shop space and is also crazy.
BECAUSE RACE CAR! Super excited. I'm aiming for Sebring in July right now. If I miss that, it'll either be CMP in September or Barber next year. Oppo pay drivers will be welcome!
Edit: Sweet article about the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of this rust bucket. H/T to SaabLife

Restore it! Or just kit it up nicely for racing.
Nice buy either way!

Siren?

LeMons likes rust. I do plan to salvage what I can to sell to other people restoring it. I'll also probably paint over the rust and make it a bit classier.

That's what they told me. I'll definitely hook it up and see if it works.

i recommend finding a donor e30 and basically doing a total platform swap. thatd be cool and probably run well. and if it didnt lord knows enough e30s in lemons

Yeah, that's nice of you to sell the parts that could aid a restoration.
A new paint job and a little Bondo would be in nice order though.

Push button automatic? Sir, I Salute You!
Assuming, of course, that it actually works..

Awesome!

Welcome to LeMons! We've run CMP 6 times. Great time. Where are you based out of?
Keep an eye on Craigslist for seats. We got ours from a ricer who had him in his car and wanted to change its color scheme. Double check your cage as they have upgraded the rules a few times.

One of these

Yeah they went over it and I think the only thing they added was the higher door bars for this year.
Good idea. The magic of Craigslist.
I'm in North Alabama. All the South region races are decently close, and maybe the Texas ones too.

Probably not

You've already got the siren, you should paint it black and white and pick up a light bar for it. You just need to design a Lemons worthy shield for the door.

Atlanta here. Good luck with the prep. I'd keep the patina on the car. Looks great. If it doesn't have one already I would probably invest in a fuel cell as well.
![]() 03/29/2014 at 22:55 |

Yeah, with a new motor I can do the fuel cell from the start.
Rust is definitely a staple LeMons color scheme. I'll probably paint it once I come up with an awesome theme.

If you need another person on your Lemons team let me know. I'm relocating to Atlanta this month. I've tried to assemble a team a couple times but none of my friends ever have the money to cover their part.

Sweet. Here's a story about your car and photo gallery.

I'm about 3 hours from Atlanta. I was going to try to do the single owner thing that Stef wrote about, where I buy stuff and everyone pays to drive. If you have a towing rig though, we might be able to work something out lol. My other car is an FR-S.
![]() 03/29/2014 at 23:03 |

That would be cool. Only thing with that is that I want to get it registered, and it might be frowned upon to register something that looks like a cop car.

Cool! thanks

Nick Fury?

You have a point there. I'm not sure of the legality. I have seen people driving restored 1950's police cruisers before. there must be some allowance for this sort of thing.
![]() 03/29/2014 at 23:32 |

lol. That's definitely on the list now

I think it might be something about having the lights on while moving. It would also work well with a Blues Brothers theme I think, but that might be overused.

HOLY CRAP YOU BOUGHT NSF'S CAR!
Love it. Please, go forth and hoon merrily.

Ack! Nekkid rust. Pet peeve o' mine. Sand 'n' paint time.

Hmmmm, I've got a thing for old Mopars, and live in the South. Let's talk Oppo pay drivers....

I'm planning on going all pay drivers. Oppo posts will be made when the car is ready to race

This could be awesome.
